TACKLA’s history began in 1961 in Lappeenranta, Finland. Alf and Raili Nylund founded a business called Saimaan Urheilupuku, which later began using the marketing name TACKLA. In the early days, our product lines included felt footwear, gymnastics footwear, jogging suits and other sportswear. In 1961, the first ice hockey pants were also made in the Lauritsala factory. This was the beginning of TACKLA’s success story, which continues even today. TACKLA is still globally known for “the best ice hockey pants in the world.
The first contract with a team in the NHL was made in 1982, when TACKLA was chosen to supply equipment for the Boston Bruins. By the end of the 1980’s, TACKLA supplied gear to all the teams in the Finnish national league. Moreover, TACKLA was the most significant clothing supplier for the Swedish national league.
In 1988, TACKLA signed the first agreement with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). TACKLA provided clothing for teams on all levels of the World Championship games. In the same year, TACKLA made another new conquest: TACKLA became an official supplier of ice hockey equipment for the Calgary Olympic Games.
When Finland won its first World Championship title in ice hockey in 1995, the team wore TACKLA products. Words cannot describe the significance of this unforgettable event. In 2002, TACKLA made a cooperation agreement with the IIHF. The still ongoing cooperation covers the supply of players’ clothing to more than 130 teams in over 40 countries. In 2014, TACKLA cooperated with the Finnish Ice Hockey Association e.g. in the World Championships for 18-year-old boys. TACKLA was an official partner of the games played in Lappeenranta and Imatra. All the teams in the tournament played in uniforms made by TACKLA.
